Easton's Beach, 175 Memorial Boulevard, Newport   The City of Newport Public Services Department is sponsoring a shredding event on May 19th from 8 AM to 12 PM at Easton’s Beach, 175 Memorial Boulevard. This event kicks off a week-long food drive. The City is asking that residents please bring a non-perishable food item for the “Fill-A-Public Works Truck” Food Drive to benefit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Center Community Food Pantry and any sensitive paper documents to be shredded. No commercial businesses, magazines or newspapers accepted. This event is open to Newport residents only (please bring proof of residency with you to the event). Note: This is a third-party event. Westerly Transfer Station, 39 Larry Hirsch Lane, Westerly The town of Westerly invites residents to attend a community shred day on Saturday, June 30 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Westerly Transfer Station located at 39 Hirsch Lane in Westerly. Donation of canned goods will be accepted to benefit The Warm Shelter and Johnnycake Center. Note: This is a third-party event. Community Shred Day

Shred RI, 2111 Plainfield Pike, Johnston Resource Recovery invites Rhode Island residents to "shred it and forget it" at Shred RI (formerly ShredFast) located at 2111 Plainfield Pike, Johnston, RI 02919 (Plainfield Flea Market Parking Lot).  Only personal documents generated in R.I. homes will be accepted; no documents from businesses, even home-based businesses, will be accepted. Tax returns, credit card statements, paycheck stubs, bank statements, cancelled checks, and medical records are all examples of sensitive, confidential documents. A sensitive or confidential document is one that contains a unique, identifying number that can be traced directly to a specific person, and which cannot be found readily through public searches.

The two organizations are joining thousands of groups across the country that are doing something special to celebrate America Recycles Day (ARD), a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful.  ARD is the only nationally-recognized day and coast-to-coast community-driven awareness campaign dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. It has been held on—and in the weeks leading into—November 15 for twenty years.
